“What if?” “What if all the people of South-Africa adopted the idea of Ubuntu?” When everyone dares to say: “Ubuntu, I am because we are. We are all one,” how easy will it still be to harm another person, one-self, an animal, and nature? What if we found more and more ways to make this idea workable? What if the ultimate answer is always for the greater good of all?
We are making official that which has guided, inspired, and united us for thousands of years!:
Ubuntu is portrayed in many stories and documentaries, projects and initiatives, and countless books and academic articles have been written about it. It is part of many business names and personal signatures, and more and more Ubuntu organizations are established. It is applied in many fields, including business, health, education, spirituality, and others. Ubuntu is said to be the ‘national philosophy of South-Africa,’ and it is the core focus of the National Heritage Council.
However, it is clear: UBUNTU IS NOT ALIVE!
The aim of the initiative is to create a day that at last gives us the opportunity to celebrate and experience our Ubuntu for ALL that it is which is our common humanity and Oneness with God/Life/Universe, and one-another. Ultimately we are creating the real 'New South-Africa', and 'Rainbow Nation'.
We propose that:
1.A South-African National Ubuntu Day is declared. Proposed date: 22 September being Spring Equinox.(September is National Heritage month.)
2.Ubuntu be adopted in the highest documents of the Country of South-Africa.
3.A common Ubuntu Declaration is established that announces who we are and what we stand for. This declaration becomes our moral and ethical guide, supported by the underlying Ubuntu values
4.More and more programs are developed to ensure that Ubuntu is considered at its deepest levels and applied in all spheres of society.
5.In education especially; children are taught the value and history of this important philosophy and the teaching of values becomes part of the curriculum.
6.That Ubuntu is taken to the global stage as part of a global Civil Society call for a Oneness Day to be
declared by the United Nations.
