International DSL Accounts sold in South Africa are being sold erroneously to South African Consumers. An International DSL Account currently consists of an International Bandwidth Quantity or CAP (Capacity) as it has become known, coupled with a Local CAP.
International CAP is charged at a premium rate, while local CAP is charged at a moderate rate.
Consumers are lead to believe that a purchase of a larger International CAP provides them with more international Bandwidth and are being mislead. Consumers are in fact merely paying a premium for a Data Package and their International CAP is consumed by local Data. This is deceptive business practice and should be investigated by the Corporate Governance Network (CGN).
All International DSL accounts should be provided with Transparency to the user. Current usage reports indicate total usage for the user and should indicate separate usage for International and Local traffic as this is the product being sold to the consumer.
This petition aims to gather support form the general DSL user community to be presented to ICASA and the Corporate Governance Network, highlighting the deceptive product offerings, with the hope of providing transparent service offerings/products for the end-user in future. |
