The South African Rugby Union (SARU) has greeted with shock statements attributed to Luke Watson regarding South African rugby, his Springbok teammates and the national jersey.
Rapport newspaper reported on Sunday that Watson had said he'd wanted to vomit on his Springbok jersey.
The CEO of Afriforum, Kallie Kriel, said in the letter they demanded that Watson withdrew his statement that the problem with SA rugby was “that it is controlled by Dutchmen".
Afriforum said that if Watson refused to withdraw his statement, it intended having him summoned to the Equality Court on charges of hate speech.
Watson allegedly made his hurtful statements regarding Afrikaners when he appeared as a guest speaker at the Umbumbo Rugby Festival at the University of Cape Town on 3 October 2008.
Luke Watson is an absolute disgrace to all who call themselves South African! It doesn't matter what race you are, if you even have watched 15 minutes of Springbok rugby and felt the pride of an entire nationyou have been hurt by his statements. Even if he was a decent rugby player I would be typing this. I don't care who you are if you are wanting to "vomit" when you put on any uniform of any kind you should not be there at all!! There are young people in this country who would kill to be where to Luke Watson is.
I call for the complete ban of Luke Watson to ever play rugby in this country again.
