Enough is enough. We, the people of South Africa have seen the plight in Zimbabwe and the corruption that has taken place there and we are disgusted.
We are not only disgusted in the actions of a vile dictator, but in our own Governments lack of action. You have chosen a Path of quiet diplomacy that has begun to paint a a new legacy for you sir that I'm sad to say overshadows all the good you have done for your country. You have become to Robert Mugabe what Mussolini was to Hitler. You have stood by silently while he has raped his own land. Destroying it of all wealth. He has murdered his own people and still we have stood silent.
This Quiet diplomacy is a farce! There is an old saying, "Silent gives consent." By doing nothing you are saying to the world that the destruction he has promoted is is acceptable and by association you too are a tyrant. The ANC has a proud heritage of fighting oppression and bringing down Apartheid, but by your inaction you have been a part of the New Apartheid happening in Zimbabwe right now.
So, let the voice of Democracy speak. Let these signatures signify the voice of your people the you swore to serve. The title you hold is a public one. It is a democratically elected position so, for once we plead that you would listen to the cry's of the people that put you in the position that you hold.
Mr President. Our apathy has not only done damage to Zimbabwe, but to your own country. We the people of South Africa are taking a stand.
We ask the following:
1. That you would demand that Robert Mugabe step down from his illegal presidency.
2. That you would join in the rest of the world in strict sanctions against Zimbabwe. Including , but not exclusively any distribution of arms or other military tools and electricity in any capacity.
3. You as the AU representative insist that a re-election take place in Zimbabwe where the following is required:
a. Full, unhindered media access
b. International observers, without restriction from all parts of the world, including, Canada, USA, UK etc.
Only once the Zanu PF and Robert Mugabe are removed from power and a true free and fair election has taken place will Zimbabwe have the chance to express and experience so many South Africans take for-granted. These things didn't come free to South Africa, but at a struggle. A struggle you were a part of. Sir, you once stood as a David against a Goliath. As once who sort Justice for the Weak. I hope that you can find it in your heart to once again act as the man you once were.
